LINQ Implants Q & A

What are LINQ implants?

LINQ implants are cardiac devices that monitor intermittent heart-related symptoms. It’s a small, wireless device placed under your skin that collects cardiac electrical activity over a long period of time. It’s like an insertable, long-term electrocardiogram (EKG) test.

The LINQ implant sends the cardiac information to a special radio monitor. With the LINQ implant, your cardiologist monitors and assesses your cardiac health from their computer.

Am I a good candidate for LINQ implants?

When you visit the Heart Care Center of Northwest Houston for a cardiac consultation, your experienced cardiologist conducts a thorough evaluation. Heart Care Center of Northwest Houston is a state-of-the-art facility that offers many in-office diagnostic tests.

You may be a good candidate for a LINQ implant if:

  • In-office testing fails to provide an accurate diagnosis
  • You have cardiac arrhythmia, and your symptoms are getting worse
  • You have intermittent cardiac arrhythmia

Cardiac arrhythmia means your heart is beating too fast, too slow, or irregularly. With cardiac arrhythmia, you may experience various symptoms such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart palpitations

If you have an arrhythmia and your symptoms occur intermittently, it can be difficult to get an accurate diagnosis. By design, the LINQ implant helps you get a diagnosis.

Heart Care Center of Northwest Houston may also consider you a good candidate for the LINQ implant if you have atrial fibrillation. The implant monitors your heart condition so your cardiologist can adjust your treatment as needed.

What happens during the placement of LINQ implants?

Your cardiologist at the Heart Care Center of Northwest Houston reviews what you can expect during the placement of your LINQ implant at your consultation. They perform the minimally invasive procedure using local anesthesia to minimize pain.

Placement takes about five minutes and requires no sutures. Your cardiologist may suggest some activity modification following the placement of your LINQ implant during the healing process.

What happens after the placement of LINQ implants?

After placement, your LINQ implant monitors your cardiac activity for up to three years. When you have a cardiac event, the implant records the cardiac activity, and your cardiologist at the Heart Care Center of Northwest Houston then evaluates the data and provides specific recommendations.
