Rhythm Monitoring
Types of Rhythm Monitoring We Offer
Most rhythm monitoring techniques are non-invasive and can range from a short 24-hour monitor to a long-term implant that records your heart rhythm over months or even years. The right type of rhythm monitoring depends on your symptoms and how often they occur.
Our cardiology team will walk you through the process and recommend the most suitable option for your situation.
Holter Monitoring
A Holter monitor is a small, wearable device that records your heart’s electrical activity continuously for 24 to 48 hours, sometimes longer. You’ll carry it in a pocket or wear it on a strap while going about your daily activities.
This helps doctors see how your heart behaves during normal routines, exercise, and sleep. If you experience symptoms like dizziness, palpitations, or unexplained fatigue, a Holter monitor can help identify if an irregular heart rhythm is the cause.
Cardiac Event Recorder
Unlike a Holter monitor that records continuously, a cardiac event recorder is used when symptoms happen less often. You wear it for a longer period (weeks or even months) and activate it only when you feel symptoms like a racing heartbeat or lightheadedness.
When you press a button, it saves a short recording of your heart’s activity, which your doctor can review later. This is useful for catching irregularities that don’t show up on shorter tests.
Cardiac Event Monitor
A cardiac event monitor works similarly to an event recorder, but may come in different forms; some are worn continuously. In contrast, others are handheld devices you place on your chest when symptoms occur.
These monitors can transmit data wirelessly to your doctor, providing real-time insights. They’re especially helpful for people who experience sporadic symptoms that a standard ECG or Holter monitor might miss.
LINQ™ Implantable Monitor
For patients who need long-term monitoring, the LINQ™ implantable cardiac monitor is a tiny device placed just beneath the skin near the chest. The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and the device can stay in place for up to three years.
LINQ™ continuously records heart rhythms and sends data to your doctor, making it ideal for detecting rare but serious arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation (AFib) or unexplained fainting spells. Unlike external monitors, you don’t have to worry about wearing or activating anything; it works automatically.
